Client News: New Counselling Service Launches in Paisley and Glasgow

The need for affordable, accessible counselling in Glasgow and Paisley is being addressed by the launch of a new service, LPG Counselling.

The new organisation, owned by three graduates of the University of Strathclyde, will focus on delivering person centred counselling to clients dealing with a variety of mental health issues.

Gavin McDonald, Laura Finnell and Paul Johnson met at the start of their course in 2016 and quickly bonded over their love of Carl Rogers, the American psychologist who developed person centred therapy starting in the 1950s. Towards the end of their course they decided go into business together to make person centred counselling affordable.

McDonald said: “Our approach focuses on the 3 stages we believe describes the therapeutic process: Learn, where the client explores where they currently are in their lives and explore their issues. Process, where the client opens up about their issues and we provide the safe, non judgemental space needed for them to open up. Grow, where we will help the client move beyond their issues.”

Although the three founders expect to attract a range of clients, they are acutely aware that they are likely to attract a large amount of millennials. “There’s a lot of studies showing that millennials are more likely to seek counselling to support them through adverse situations” Finnell advised.

Johnson continued: “We’ve had our website designed especially for the millennial market. We think we’re the first counselling service in the area to enable clients to book and pay for their appointments online – the very thing that millennials expect of every modern business they interact with. But we’re determined to be as accessible as possible so we’ll still allow people to pay in person.”

The ambitious startup selected The Marketing Department to create their brand and website. We have considerable experience branding startups.

Our CEO, Christopher Graham, said: “Obviously we were delighted when LPG selected us to create their visual brand and website. We were extremely impressed with their focus on person-centred counselling and desire to make counselling more accessible. It has been an enormously enjoyable project. The ability for people to book and pay online for services – while very common in general – is strangely lacking in the world of counselling and therapy. We agree that this advantage will really appeal to the millennial market.”

LPG Counselling is accepting clients now and bookings can be made on their website www.lpg.scot
