Scotland Given Roadmap for Net Zero
The highly-anticipated Scottish Net Zero Roadmap (SNZR) has been launched at an event in Edinburgh today. The report is the culmination of two years’ work led by our client NECCUS and offers a comprehensive plan for the actions required to achieve Scotland's target of net zero carbon emissions by 2045.
The event, sponsored by Crown Estate Scotland, brought together leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss the report's findings, and explore opportunities for collaboration in the journey towards net zero.
The SNZR report provides a detailed analysis of Scotland's current industrial emissions and identifies a roadmap for abating these emissions 5 years ahead of the UK net zero target of 2050. The report also sets out a number of recommendations, including the promotion of technologies such as carbon capture and storage, and using hydrogen in place of fossil fuels.
John Lamont MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland, highlighted the importance of the report in shaping Scotland's future decarbonisation strategy.
Mr Lamont said: “Projects like the Scottish Net Zero Roadmap are vital to achieving our net zero ambitions and supporting economic growth across the country. This work, supported by funding from the UK Government, provides a clear path for Scotland’s largest industrial emitters to move to net zero. Together we can make Scotland and the UK a world leader in clean energy transition.
NECCUS CEO Ronnie Quinn said: "The launch of the SNZR report represents a significant amount of work from a broad range of stakeholders. Scotland’s net zero target is ambitious, and this report is a crucial step in identifying the challenges we face and the opportunities we have to reduce emissions across Scotland’s industrial sectors. I look forward to discussing how we can work together to turn the report's recommendations into action.”
The Marketing Department is committed to supporting the world’s move to net zero, and the design of the report and management of the launch event is our latest project in this rapidly expanding sector of work. James Anderson, our Creative Director said: “NECCUS’ decision to entrust us with the launch of this major piece of work underscores our credentials and experience in this sector. From the day we opened for business we’ve been a key contributor to the net zero movement and we’ll continue to do whatever we can to elevate the work of organisations and businesses pushing us all forward to a more sustainable future.”
