Trade Mission to Oslo will make International CCS Partnerships for Decarbonised Industry Futures
The NECCUS Scotland-Norway Decarbonisation Trade Mission 2023 is set to unfold in Oslo this week, 30th- 31st August. The event brings together organisations representing a smorgasbord of Scottish and Norwegian low carbon initiatives, inviting delegates to share their expertise, uncover market and supply-chain synergies between nations and thus accelerate the transition to Net Zero.
The Marketing Department was appointed by NECCUS to design and deliver the trade mission in early 2023.
Led by NECCUS, the trade alliance for the decarbonisation of Scottish industry, the mission will feature talks from distinguished experts and business leaders, offering insights into the contextual landscapes for decarbonisation in Scotland and Norway and underlining the pivotal role of carbon capture and storage (CCS). The agenda for the event was created in partnership with Norwegian Energy Partners. A key highlight will be a presentation by Ed Nimmons, Director of Carbon Capture Scotland, the event’s headline sponsor – targeting decarbonisation of dispersed rural industries and agriculture.
Following formal presentations, delegates will be invited to enjoy a more personal networking drinks reception hosted by UK Ambassador to Norway Jan Thompson CMG OBE. The British Embassy in Oslo is supporting this year’s event, alongside the Department for International Trade, the Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce, Norwegian Energy Partners, Scottish Development International, and Worley.

The Trade Mission comes at a moment of surging momentum for CCS technologies, exemplified by Norwegian government and business progress on commercialisation of Northern Lights, and the UK government’s recent announcement of funding for the Acorn CCS project in Aberdeenshire. Funding is being allocated as part of a £1 billion government competition, with the potential to generate over 20,000 jobs in North East Scotland. This trade mission demonstrates Scotland’s commitment and dynamism in leading a sustainable energy transition.
Stuart Haszeldine, Professor of CCS at the University of Edinburgh and Adviser to the NECCUS Board, said, "Scotland's potential as a super-place for clean energies, including CCS, lies in its wealth of natural resources for electricity and heat generation, and storage of CO2 or hydrogen.
