The GetAbout Partnership is a consortium of public sector organisations lead by Aberdeenshire Council. It encourages people to be more active, to access public services and to make use of Aberdeenshire’s varied public transport offering.

Aberdeenshire Council required promotional material to market the new partnership at a spring-time event, and opted to create a range of products centred around prominent Aberdeenshire landmarks. The landmarks were:

  • Bridge of Alvah, Banff

  • Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven

  • MacDuff Harbour, MacDuff

  • Oldmeldrum Town Hall, Oldmeldrum

  • Scotty Tower, Banchory

  • Westhill Compass, Westhill

We lead on design for this project, silhouetting the landmarks to create pin badges and tote bags that event participants could collect. We further designed mock passports using bright and bold colours. People could then use these to collect special stamps at each landmark.

Cllr Peter Argyle, Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee chair: “This is a really innovative way to encourage residents, families and visitors alike to partake in gentle exercise whilst learning about Aberdeenshire’s rich history and cultural heritage.”

Committee vice chair, Cllr John Cox: “I am really impressed with the design of the colourful treasure trail maps and the care and attention to detail that has gone into the pin badges and tote bags. I hope that people across Aberdeenshire will enjoy completing each trail over the coming months. The fact that this is a free activity will no doubt encourage all people to take part. I would like to wish all those participating the very best of luck.”
