Our Thoughts on Equality & Discrimination

Every day when we sit down at our MacBooks or - as the case often is during the present lockdown, lie on our beds with our MacBooks - we know that whatever we create has the ability to lift people and help them achieve goals.

What we make might give a client new tools to gain more customers and increase their visibility in a crowded marketplace. Or we might be able to help a charity better explain their purpose and the positive impact they make.

We have always been aware of the power of design. We’ve prided ourselves on using design for good. We are acutely aware of how design can be used for evil, to create systems and processes that harm groups of people and individuals. One need not look too far back in history for examples of this, and even today this is still happening.

We don’t support this and we never will.

TMD is dedicated to being an inclusive business. Our experience tells us that diversity is the holy grail of innovation. We need different people, different ideas, different approaches to ensure we are creating the best possible work for our clients and the charities we support.

We are aware of our own privilege. We talk about it almost every day. Currently, our team is comprised entirely of white people and half of us are members of the LGBT+ community. We know a little of what it is like to be marginalised and discriminated against, but that is nothing compared to what people of colour in various western countries are dealing with right now, least of all the Black community in the United States.

Ultimately, we believe that all discrimination must end. Our communities and institutions - our entire society - must evolve to ensure that every single human is treated equally, regardless of skin colour, background, sexuality, gender or any other reason. We’ll be doing whatever we can to make this vision reality.
